LASU Clears Air On Former Student - Omomeewa's Death

Following the death of a former student of the Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo campus Yusuf Nurudeen Alowonle aka OmOmeewa, the management of the University has distanced self from the unfortunate incident.

Social media has been agog on the news of the death of the former activist.

In a press statement by the Coordinator of the Information Unit of the University, Ademola #Adekoya, the deceased was noted to have been in company of a staff Waheed Majekodunmi and both were shot which led to #OmOmeewa’s death while Majekodunmi survived and is under medical attention at the Varsity’s clinic.

Yusuf Nurudeen Alowonle OmOmeewa was a Presidential Candidate for the #LASUSU election in 2018/2019 session.

On their part, the LASUSU President, Badmus Uthman and the Public Relations Officer of the Union, Olusola Kolawole said that the deceased activist might have been killed by armed robbers considering the circumstances of the incident.

In their words:
“Omomeewa was an activist of Human and Student Rights and also a graduate of Lagos State University (Set of 2019). He graduated from the Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education. Comr Nurudeen contested for the post of Lagos State University students’ union president in the 29th LASUSU election but did not emerge a winner. He was a strong activist who was never found wanting.”

The deceased had been sanctioned by the University in 2019 and suspended while undergoing disciplinary actions but the case has been largely affected by the #COVID19 pandemic.

OmOmeewa was said to have appeared before a panel on Wednesday, 18th August 2021 to defend his case and his case concluded since 2pm.
