LASUSU at Loggerheads with NULASS-LASU On BRT Ownership

The Lagos State Students’ Union (LASUSU) President, Badmus Uthman Oladipupo, has differed on the ownership of the BRT buses with the National Union of Lagos State Students (NULASS) which are used to conveying students along the LASU – Igando axis.

The buses, Badmus, pointed out is a development that was fast-tracked by series of calls and meetings.

On the contrary, the President of the National Union of Lagos State Students, Braimoh-Igbo Ibrahim asserted that against a broadcast message sent by the Lagos State University Students’ Union on 13th September 2021 which claimed that LASUSU met with the BRT officials at Igando to implement the BRT initiative.

While the LASUSU President claimed to have had a meeting on September 10 over the security issues and also a request for BRT, Braimoh-Igbo cleared that he started his plans before 8th September through several telephone calls.

According to Braimoh-Igbo,

The buses came around on September 17 after many procedures like the zonal fare system, the kind of structure, where to pitch them, number of students it can cater for and the number of buses to maximize the population of the students. These are the procedures.

“I am a student of Transport and so I understand their language. LASUSU released another broadcast message on the 17th September when the buses came around. We could have sent a disclaimer stating LASUSU only wanted to usurp the image but, I’m more particular about the students’ welfare irrespective of who gets the credit. LASUSU only complements the existing protocol”.

On his part, Badmus said,

“For NULASS, according to their President and their broadcast; the following are the facts. They were carrying out surveys for the use of public transit in LASU road as a normal routine and the management of the buses gave them conditions to know the number of students using the route and the time students is going for lectures and going back to their respective hostels. They said that the buses will materialize in the next two weeks. They said that the buses will have their park in front of Buba Marwa Main Auditorium.
