The Director at International Press Centre (IPC), Ogba, Lagos, Mr. Lanre Arogundade, has called on government to rise up to the demand for accountability by making information easily accessible to citizens, to allow for credible dissemination of news.

He was speaking at a lecture organised by National Association of Political Science Students #NAPSS , Lagos State University #LASU chapter where he tasked journalists on professionalism and the discipline of verification to curb fake news.

The lecture was themed ‘The implication of fake news for democratic consolidation in Nigeria’.

He noted that the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act empowers citizens to request information of public interest from the government who are obligated to respond.

The #NAPSS-LASU Lecture Series was to facilitate participants in learning and imbibing social and political management practices as well as provide room for educating and orientating the students of Political Science.
