Last Friday, I had the opportunity to honour the invitation of our Dear Rt. Hon. Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. Honourable 'Lanre Ogunyemi (Chairman, House Committee on Education) led us to the Office of the Speaker and gave the introduction.

I had the opportunity to congratulate the Rt. Hon. Speaker on his emergence as Speaker of the Hallowed Chamber and also appreciate him for the efforts that the 8th Assembly has been putting to ensure the growth of our great citadel; notably the passage of the #LASU Amendment Bill 2015 which ensured the single term of five years for Vice Chancellors and the change to turn Lagos State University to a Residential campus. I reminded of our Arcade and also commended his administration for approving the Budget that allowed the continuation of our Students' Union Arcade.

I also informed the Speaker of the deteriorating level of our Buses (Marcopolo and Coaster) and the need for new Buses from the Lagos State Government. I also implored the Rt. Hon Speaker to create a partnership and lasting relationship with the Union to ensure synergy between the two institutions.

I informed the Rt. Hon. Speaker of our current ranking as the Best State University in Nigeria and 14th Best University in the Nigeria. Finally, I informed the Speaker of our proposed Inter Tertiary Debating Competition and our request for attendance and support.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker commended us for work done so far and the sustainability of peace on campus. He made it known that the 8th Assembly is committed to ensuring that Lagos State University be the best University in Nigeria. He assured us of having a conversation about the Union Buses with the Governor and informed us that the House is eager to create a relationship only if we can re position our structure.

As an alumni, he made us understand his love for the University and we should continue our work as we ensure stability on campus. He promised to support our proposed Inter Tertiary Debating Competition and attend.

The visit was a session needed to ensuring that there is synergy between the Union and Lagos State House of Assembly.

The administration is determined to ensure the success of the Union. We, sincerely, appreciate the invitation of the Rt. Hon. Speaker and Hon. Lanre #Ogunyemi and Hon. Tunji #Buraimoh.

Kappo Samuel
27th #LASUSU President
